On my morning walk today I passed by a quaint grove of trees … not sure why but the grove stirred up thoughts of the events that occurred in the Garden of Gethsemane, thousands of years ago … events that concluded in crucifying betrayal … betrayal is ugly, it messes with our brain, it shuts down our heart, it rattles our soul … it is the juice that drama thrives on … disloyalty, treachery, infidelity … friends, lovers, husbands, wives, co-workers, brothers, sisters, daughters, sons … all betrayal is a searing life experience … but the one betrayal that doesn’t seem to receive much consideration … the one that I believe trumps all machinations of duplicity is self-betrayal … our sincere need to belong, to be loved, comfortable, safe, secure can unwittingly lead us to give up on our true-self … our hopes and dreams, our gifts and talents, our passions … silently mediocrity starts to seep in through our pores and take root in our lives … that is of course until we decide to choose differently and begin to reclaim our authentic ‘I Am’.
